World Youth Day Meeting

Interested in going to Spain and seeing the Pope?

St.Alphonsus is planning another wonderful fun-filled, faith-filled World Youth Day trip to see the Pope and celebrate our Faith with youths from all over the world during the summer of 2011.  We would be delighted if you could join us. Our last trip was very inspirational and a lot of fun and I know that this one will be just as enlightening as the last one. We will be having a meeting after the 10am Mass on Sunday August 11 in the school cafeteria. If you are interested in hearing the details please join us for this informational meeting. We will be talking about dates and fund-raising opportunities to help cover our travel costs. Mark your calendars. We would love to have you go with us.

Replacement of Walk-in Freezer and Cooler: $57,550

Reminder of Emergency Parish Need

Through this emergency appeal, we ask for your donations towards the purchase of new, walk-in freezer and cooler units. We ask that you contribute via the Parish Share Program’s blue monthly envelopes or with plain envelopes marked “Freezer” or “Parish Share."  Given that our parish has met its Diocesan goal for the fiscal year, we keep 100% of the Parish Share receipts through January.

Last week, we announced that the walk-in cooler and freezer in our school cafeteria had deteriorated in its 53 years of use since it was built in 1955, and has to be completely replaced with new reinforced floor, ceiling, walls, doors, and refrigeration components.

The rooms will be rebuilt during the Christmas break.

Besides school lunches, we use those rooms for the Harvest Home Dinner and the Lenten Fish Fries.

For additional details, please see our earlier announcement .

Parish Christmas Project

St. Vincent Mission in the Appalachian town of David, Kentucky, is counting on our Parish’s generous help to provide gifts for their Christmas store.

Gift tags are available on the altar and have been separated into baskets for men, women, and children.  Most gifts are items of clothing, toys, and other such items, and they should be new.  If purchasing toys, we recommend toys that don’t require batteries.

There is as much need for men’s and women’s clothing as there is for children’s.

Please note that the mission recommends leaving the store tag on the garment although you may remove the price if you choose to do so.

Your generosity will bring great joy to the families who shop at St. Vincent’s Christmas store.

Under the direction of Sr. Kathleen Weigand, St. Vincent Mission makes it possible for over 170 families there to shop for Christmas gifts.  By using a simple token system, parents are able to choose Christmas gifts for each family member.

Please return your gifts with the tags by Sunday, November 30th. Thank you.

We must replace it as soon as possible, and will do so during the Christmas break.

The cost of the rooms is $57,550.
