Religious Education (CCD & RCIA)
Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for your interest in Saint Alphonsus Religious Education! I am always pleased to speak with others about our parish and, in a special way, Religious Education. I began my tenure as the Catechetical Administrator in the Fall of 2008. Previously, I had taught CCD (mostly 8th Grade) for ten years and am currently working towards the completion of a Master of Theology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville. It is truly a privilege to work with all of the wonderful families involved in our Religous Education Program, as well as our outstanding Catechetical Staff. I’d also like to express my appreciation for our beloved Pastor Father Murphy and Parochial Vicar Father Fischer, who routinely visit our CCD classes and are intimately involved with the program.
The Catholic Church has always understood the faith instruction of the young as central to her mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations (cf. Matt. 28:19). With this it has further been understood that the parents are the first faith teachers of their children (Eph. 6:4). Our goal in the Religious Education Program is to reach out to the entire family, the parents as well as the children, those who’ve already received the sacraments as well as the uncatechized. With this goal in mind, CCD classes are offered for students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. All classes are held on Monday evenings, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. For those families who may have difficulty attending class at this time on a regular basis, a partial or full Catholic Homeschooling Program is available. We are also pleased to offer an Adult Bible Study & Discussion Group, which is held in the school cafeteria during CCD classtime. This group is open to the CCD parents, as well as to all parish adults who wish to increase their knowledge of the faith. The sessions are designed not only to explain what we believe as Catholics, but also why we believe it, and to better equip parents in relaying the faith to their children. No registration is needed for the Adult Group and all are welcome!
More information regarding our CCD classes may be found here. More information regaring the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) may be found here. (RCIA is not to be confused with the Adult Bible Study mentioned above, but is specifically for those who are preparing to enter into the Church for the first time and receive the Sacraments of Initiation.) Announcements regarding meeting dates, enrollment deadlines, and other relevant information is available here. For CCD Registration, please go to on-line registration.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have by phone at 724-935-1160 or by email at sacredbread@gmail.com. Thank you and may Our Lord richly bless you!
With fidelity to Christ through Mary,
Louis Bosco
Catechetical Administrator
