Fr. Andrew Fisher Moving to St. Margaret Mary’s

Father Andrew Fischer appointed pastor of Moon Township Parish.

Our Parochial Vicar, Father Andrew C. Fischer has received an assignment from Bishop David A. Zubik to be pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Moon Township effective June 30.

While we as parishioners will be at a loss for Father Andrew’s personal presence and his priestly ministry here at St. Alphonsus Parish, we do congratulate him on his appointment by Bishop Zubik to this large parish near the Pittsburgh International Airport.

The Clergy Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh has informed our parish that “every consideration will be made to appoint another parochial vicar to St. Alphonsus Parish in the near future.”

What the Church Teaches and Why

The Holy Bible calls the Church “the pillar and foundation of truth” (1 Tim. 3:15). There is so much misunderstanding today about the Church’s beliefs, among Catholics and non-Catholics alike. It is more important than ever, therefore, for Catholics to fully understand what the Church teaches and why she teaches it, to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ first and foremost, but also to better equip us to charitably share our faith with others. To this end the Religious Education Program has made the below slideshows available for download:

Posting Web Site Announcements

Thanks to a few enterprising young volunteers, it is now much easier to post announcements on the web site.

Those interested in posting announcements should visit our request announcements page for e-mail instructions or an on-line submission form.

This is separate from the submission process for bulletin entries.  Web announcements can be more detailed (longer) and include pdf attachments.

Replacement of Walk-in Freezer and Cooler: $57,550

Reminder of Emergency Parish Need

Through this emergency appeal, we ask for your donations towards the purchase of new, walk-in freezer and cooler units. We ask that you contribute via the Parish Share Program’s blue monthly envelopes or with plain envelopes marked “Freezer” or “Parish Share."  Given that our parish has met its Diocesan goal for the fiscal year, we keep 100% of the Parish Share receipts through January.

Last week, we announced that the walk-in cooler and freezer in our school cafeteria had deteriorated in its 53 years of use since it was built in 1955, and has to be completely replaced with new reinforced floor, ceiling, walls, doors, and refrigeration components.

The rooms will be rebuilt during the Christmas break.

Besides school lunches, we use those rooms for the Harvest Home Dinner and the Lenten Fish Fries.

For additional details, please see our earlier announcement .

Parish Christmas Project

St. Vincent Mission in the Appalachian town of David, Kentucky, is counting on our Parish’s generous help to provide gifts for their Christmas store.

Gift tags are available on the altar and have been separated into baskets for men, women, and children.  Most gifts are items of clothing, toys, and other such items, and they should be new.  If purchasing toys, we recommend toys that don’t require batteries.

There is as much need for men’s and women’s clothing as there is for children’s.

Please note that the mission recommends leaving the store tag on the garment although you may remove the price if you choose to do so.

Your generosity will bring great joy to the families who shop at St. Vincent’s Christmas store.

Under the direction of Sr. Kathleen Weigand, St. Vincent Mission makes it possible for over 170 families there to shop for Christmas gifts.  By using a simple token system, parents are able to choose Christmas gifts for each family member.

Please return your gifts with the tags by Sunday, November 30th. Thank you.

Today’s Feast of Christ the King

The Feast of Christ the King is a fitting end of the Church Liturgical Year. We are reminded of the Final Judgment when Jesus will reign in His Glory. His invitation to the just, in whose number we yearn to be, is most welcoming: “Come, you who are blessed by My Father. Inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
