DIOCESAN REQUIREMENTS (CLEARANCES)
The Church has put into place particular guidelines designed to help keep the young people of our parish safe from sexual and other forms of abuse. Please understand that adherence to these guidelines is a critical part of maintaining a safe environment for our children. According to these guidelines, all who work and minister in the parish and who have contact with young people under the age of 18 are required to register with the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This registration can be done in stages, but must be completed in a timely and responsible manner. Please take a moment to review the various stages of the process detailed below.
1. Diocesan Database Application
The Diocese of Pittsburgh has established a secure, electronic database as a way of keeping track of all (ncluding clergy, religious, employees, and volunteers) who have contact with the youth of our parish. The Diocesan Database Application takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Find and click on the “Diocese of Pittsburgh Database Application.”
Follow the instructions on the login page for new users. Be sure to write down your User ID and password for future reference.
You will advance to the Access Code Field. For the “Diocesan Password,” type in “protect.”
Click “Register” and you should receive a message that you have successfully registered.
Now click on “Please click here to login and continue your application.”
At the login page enter your User ID and password and click “Login.”
You will advance to the Application Screen. Complete all necessary information.
2. PA Criminal Clearance
You may obtain the necessary form from the Religious Education Office or online by logging onto https://epatch.state.pa.us and selecting “New Record Check.” The online form will require you to charge a $10 fee to your credit card. (You will be reimbursed for this fee by the parish.) This form should not take more than a minute or two to complete, though you may have to wait about two weeks to receive clearance. Once you receive clearance, please submit a photocopy to the Religious Education Office.
3. PA Child Abuse Clearance
You may obtain the necessary form from the Religious Education Office or online at http://www.state.pa.us/PartnersProviders/ChildWelfare/003671038.htm. Please return the completed form to the Religious Education Office WITHOUT filing it. We will do this on your behalf.
4. and 5. Cardinal’s Clause and the Code of Pastoral Conduct
These forms will be completed in the Religious Education Office during your initial interview.
6. Protecting God’s Children In-Service
You will need to attend a session of sexual abuse prevention, awareness, and safety. Registration for the session is required. There is no fee. For available sessions, locations, and times go to http://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list2.cfm?theOrgID=15497&theme=0. You may also contact the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People at 412-456-5633.
Please Note: All volunteers 18 and older must complete all of these requirements. If you obtained any of the above clearances for other reasons in the last 5 years, they are still valid. Please bring the originals to the Religious Education Office. The office will make photocopies to keep on file and you will keep the originals. Thank you!
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASS
Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit” (John 3:5). Through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Christians are spiritually “born again” and enter into union with Jesus Christ and His Church. The parish offers Baptismal Preparation Classes for expectant parents. Please make arrangements to attend the class BEFORE the baby is born. The classes are held quarterly in the School Music Room on Mondays from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Please complete and submit the below information form and a member of the parish staff will contact you to register you for the next available class. Thank you and may God bless you.
